BENEATH THE BAOBAB
-
Ever since I first laid eyes on Craig, I knew I could never stay away for long. His presence and sheer proportions captivated me immediately, and photographing him on the featureless landscape of Amboseli is nothing short of a photographer's dream. I have since returned every year to spend more time by his side. His existence is miraculous, considering the massacres that have taken place through history and the present day. And yet even though he is aware of the dangers his huge tusks place him, he is the calmest, most trusting elephant I have ever encountered. He is one of a kind.
The sale of this photograph supports Big Life Foundation, for, without them, Craig would indeed not exist. He is a walking target, carrying ivory worth thousands in the far east. Big Life monitors him every day, and it is thanks to their knowledge and understanding of this elephant I was able to be in the right place at the right time.
Long may he live, and I hope to cross paths with him again later this year.
