BENEATH THE BAOBAB
-
Africa is home to several iconic trees, but the baobab is arguably the most iconic of all. The towering giants often form the most dominant aspect of the landscape. The giraffe in this image was a perfect tool to demonstrate the sheer scale of it, and I am so drawn to their ancient presence. There's something captivating about how these giants stand watch over the land, carrying stories and secrets from generations past.
A baobab tree can survive for over 2,000 years, standing as a silent witness to the sweep of human history - from the rise and fall of empires to the smallest, fleeting moments of daily life. It may have offered shade to animals now extinct, generations of wildlife passing beneath its immense trunk long before we were here.
To stand beneath one of these ancient giants is profoundly humbling: a reminder of time’s vastness, the resilience of life, and our own fleeting presence in comparison. Each wrinkle and hollow in its bark feels like a page in a living chronicle, connecting the present to millennia of existence.
