DRAWN SWORDS
-
Drawn Swords is an image I have been dreaming of for years. Even during three years working in one of Africa’s most renowned rhino conservancies, the moment I longed for remained elusive. The closest I came before was almost the opposite - two rhinos standing back to back.
With male white rhinos being territorial, I knew the only chance to capture this image would be during a fight, a rare event. I couldn’t believe my eyes as we drove over the brow of a hill to see these two massive males approaching each other.
Working from a side-on perspective, I framed the scene for symmetry and balance while including as much of the sky as possible. Though a brief clash was imminent, the moment their horns aligned carried a profound sense of serenity - one of those rare instances where everything falls perfectly into place.
