This image holds particular meaning for me because it depicts two beings whose lives have been intertwined for generations, quietly wandering the same open lands as they always have.

Today, the traditional way of life of the Maasai faces just as great a threat as the wildlife around them. For centuries, the Maasai and wild animals such as giraffes have coexisted, but the open spaces they both depend on are disappearing fast. Their survival, and the continuation of their way of life, depend on the same vanishing wilderness. That shared fragility and interdependence lie at the heart of what inspired this series.
